Crocodile Attack

Many readers may be unaware that dinosaurs the Cretaceous with crocodiles much like those of today. The only difference was in size. The deinosuchus encountered by Evran in this illustration was roughly the size of a bus. It could’ve taken down a full-grown elephant and swallowed a horse in one gulp. You will notice the ogres in the background rushing to attack it. My presumption is that crocodiles of the Cretaceous would have tasted about as they do today, but with enough meat to feed an army—and an army marches on its stomach.

This is also Evran’s first appearance in any of the illustrations, which is a shame as we can barely see him. He will, however, appear in many more.
